About Us

Save Our Schools Medway is an umbrella group for those campaigning against closure and mergers of schools in the Medway towns.

We believe that all schools threatened with closure stand a greater chance of survival if they work together. The group aims to raise greater awareness of the plight of all schools under threat in Medway. We also seek to work with the individual school campaigns to organise united action in defence of the right to a good school and education for every child in Medway.

Schools fighting closure

St John's C of E Infant School

St John's is a small, friendly school with a home from home environment, making that first transition from home to school life a more pleasant experience. With a low staff turnover the children receive consistently good support to reach their full potential. "Children love school and are especially enthusiastic about what they are learning. They learn to care for each other and there are excellent relationships between pupils of different ages and diverse cultures." (OFSTED 2007).

St. Johns is a good school which has consistently received good OFSTED reports and “achieves its aim with considerable success.” Nowhere do DCSF guidelines call for the closure of schools which are consistently performing well. The school is popular with parents and pupils, many ex-pupils opting to send their own children here, and it fills a very specific role in one of Medway’s most deprived wards.
